Tom + Joan

Another couple from the NC getting married this summer – Tom and Joan came over yesterday morning for their engagement photos. We did a few at my place and then some in town, but my favorite part of the session was when Tom took us out to his grandma’s farm! There were lots of cool buildings and some great scenery – if only the wind would have settled down a bit for us to enjoy being outside!!

Another fun part of Tom and Joan’s session was the herd of deer that came walking right up to us!! You can see a few of them in the background of the next photo – there were at least 15-20 more in the trees!

Tom and Joan – I hope you had fun and I can’t wait for your wedding this June!

Styles + Ashley

The weather today was not going to keep Styles & Ashley from coming to Brookings for their engagement session – we had already rescheduled once because of the wonderful weather we have here. Today was perfect for photos. We only did a few outside because it was still pretty cold but the snow made for a nice little special effect.

Amanda + Trevor

I went to high school with Amanda and I have met Trevor on a couple different occasions (mostly on holidays when we were all home and went to mass at the same time) but this was the first time I really got to hang out with both of them for an extended period of time! I met them in Sioux Falls at Falls Park where Trevor proposed and we did a variety of photos around the park. Amanda and I also did some catching up and found out that we both know what each other is up to because of facebook photos – I’m glad I’m not the only one who is on facebook just to look at everyone’s pictures!! :-)

Jesse + Kelli engaged!

I have known Kelli ever since I got involved at the Newman Center on campus and for a semester or two I sat next to her in Women’s Choir! I was so excited when Kelli told me that Jesse proposed because every time I see them together they are in such good spirits – even if they are on their way to study! And now I’ll get to see them and be with them throughout their big day! Can’t wait for next summer!

I think this was about the only tree that didn’t have all the leaves torn off of it by the ‘hurricane’ the day before!

Ben + Kara

Ben and Kara came over this morning for photos, and thankfully the two inches of snow we got yesterday melted before we went to McCrory Gardens! I must be improving on my lighting and navigational skills around McCrory – I seemed to get a lot of great photos in a really short time! That, and I didn’t have to waste my time making a lot of silly jokes for these two to smile – I think part of that was because Kara just got back from school in Oregon for a short vacation so I’m sure they were just happy to see each other! :-)

It was great meeting you two, and I look forward to your wedding next summer! I hope you had fun and enjoy your weekend at home!

Shane + Lacey engaged!

I was so glad that this past weekend worked for Shane and Lacey to do their ‘real’ engagement photos (as opposed to the ones I took on Spring Break when they got engaged) – we could not have had better weather! I met them in Sioux Falls which was great because I love shooting in new locations! 

Shane and Lacey are so funny together – they already bicker like an old married couple, but they act like preschoolers sometimes too!! In the next couple photos you might get a taste of their relationship.. :-) 

For the next photo I told them to pretend like I wasn’t there – they goofed around even more, but then out of nowhere this happened!

We went out to supper after the shoot, and Shane was whining about having to kiss Lacey so much – I told him they better not kiss for at least a week before the wedding. They’ll never make it through the reception unless they have plastic cups and utensils!!

Eric + Jen

While I was in the Black Hills this weekend, I had the pleasure of doing Eric and Jen’s engagement photos at Roughlock Falls and Deadwood! As much as I enjoy scenic trails, I am SO glad that we could drive the extra mile to the falls instead of walking!! ;-) 

Eric’s dad spotted this awesome trail right next to the falls:

On the way to the falls, Jen spotted this bridge with an elderly couple looking off into the distance, so we did our best reenactment – I love these next two!

A quick clothing change at the cabin and we were off to Deadwood!

The ‘river’ between these two buildings was not as prosperous as we had anticipated, but it was still a pretty cool location!

I enjoyed exploring Roughlock Falls and Deadwood with you two! I can’t wait for your wedding next June!

Steve + Wendy engaged!

Tuesday evening I met Steve and Wendy to do their engagement session for their wedding next June! We trekked all the way across McCrory Gardens and over a very dangerous bridge (okay so maybe I was the only one who thought it was dangerous, but I was wearing tall shoes and carrying very expensive equipment) to get to the spot where Steve proposed…

Next, I tried a little backlight with the almost setting sun:

They were constantly making each other laugh, which makes for great smiles! :-)

Some more backlight, with a little sun flare… I didn’t mean to put it right on Steve’s eye, it just happened, but I know they really love being outside so I thought it was fitting.

And one more. I couldn’t resist!

Dan + Annie

I had the pleasure of taking engagement photos for my friends Dan and Annie – what a sweet couple!! And they were so comfortable in front of the camera, I hardly had to pose them!

They are so playful! Most of the time was spent goofing around at the playground. :-)

Travis + Tracy
